Mozilla Firefox Internet Browser is installed and is set as the default browser.  Internet 
Explorer browser is not safe.  Internet Explorer browser is only being supported in 
windows xp sp2.  Use Mozilla Firefox browser as your preferred browser instead of 
Internet Explorer browser.  


To keep connection from resetting or disconnecting , open up a browser such as Internet 
Explorer browsr or Mozilla Firefox browser to your home page, such as, http://my.yahoo.com.


After starting computer wait until Orange/red light stops flashing.  Several icons should 
be showing in the system tray, next to clock in lower right hand corner of monitor.  
They are: 


1.  Connection Icon (Resembles two computers connected together). 

2.  Volume Control Speaker.  

3.  Zone Alarm, {red and yellow rectangle with a "Z" and an "A"}.  

4.  Microsoft AntiSpy Icon, (Resembles a target)

5.  Symantec Antivirus Scanner Icon.

6.  On AC Power, (only when power adapter cord is being used.  Resembles a power cord).

7.  On Battery Power, (Only when power adapter cord is not being used.  Resembles a battery). 




Open these items one at a time and check for updates then run scan.

1.  Symantec Virus Scanner - Daily  
	(Right Click on the multi colored icon in the system tray - Lower Right 	
	Hand Corner next to Clock).

2.  Ad Aware Anti-spyware Tool - Weekly  
	(Open Ad Aware and click on the "Check for Updates" button)

3.  Spybot S&D Anti-spywar Tool - Weekly
	(Open Spybot S&D and click on the "Check for Updates" button)
	
4.  Microsoft Anti-spyware Tool - Weekly
	(Open Microsoft Antispy Tool and click "File" in the Titlebar menu,
	 then click on  "Check for updates").

5.  Windows Critical Updates - Weekly
	(Click on "Start" then point to "Windows Updates")

6.  Windows Office Updates - Weekly
	(Click on "Start" then click on "Windows Updates", 
	then click on "Office Updates" near the top) 



Run "Disk Cleanup" Weekly
	(Click on "Start", point to "Accessories", then point to "System Tools", 
	then click on "Disk Cleanup")

Run "Disk Defragmenter" Weekly
	(Click on "Start", point to "Accessories", then point to "System Tools", 
	then click on "Disk Defragmenter")


 
"RUNNING AD AWARE"
 
    1.  Open Ad Aware from your "Start Menu".
 
    2.  Check for "Updates", then select "Perform full system scan", then click "Next".
 
 
    3.  After scan is finished click on the "Next" button.
 
    4.  Now you should see three tabs....
 
        "Scan Summary"
        "Negligible Objects"
        "Scan Log"
 
    5.  Click on "Scan Summary".
 
    6.  On the "Scan Summary" tab place a checkmark next to "MRU" and any "Critical 
         Objects" that may have been found.
 
        (MRU's and Cookies are safe to delete).
 
    7.  Then click on the "Next" button, then click "OK", and "Ad Aware" is finished. 
 
 
"RUNNING SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTROY" 
 
    1.  Open Spybot Search & Destroy" from your "Start Menu".
 
    2.  Click for "Search for Updates".
 
    3.  If there are any updates, select "Download" any updates.  
            (I recommend that you use one of the download sites that are in the USA).
 
    4.  Then run a scan and remove any items that are in "Red"....there will be a 
          mark next to the ones that are red.
 
    
 
"Deleting Cookies and Temporary Internet Files"    
 
 
    1.  Click "Start".
 
    2.  open "Control Panel".
 
    3.  open "Internet Properties".
 
    4.  On the "General" tab click on "Delete Cookies".
 
    5.  Then click on "Delete Files"....make sure there is a check mark in the box 
          next to the words....."Delete all offline content". 
 
    6.  Click "OK".
 
 
 
"Running Disk Cleanup"
 
    1.  Click on "Start".
 
    2.  Click on "All Programs".
 
    3.  Point to "Accessories".
 
    4.  Point to "System Tools".
 
    5.  Click on "Disk Cleanup"...Select your "(C:)" drive and any other hard drives
          you may have.
 
 
"Running Disk Defrag"
 
    1.  Click on "Start".
    
    2.  Click on "My Computer".
 
    3.  Right click on "(C:)".
 
    4.  Click on "Properties.
 
    5.  Click on the "Tools" tab.
 
    6.  Click on the "Defrag Now..." button.
